President Hu Jintao and former ROK President Roh-Moo-Hyun declared, in November 2004, the launch of an unofficial feasibility study on China-ROK Free Trade Area. Completed in 2006 ， this research drew a conclusion that the FTA would be mutually beneficial and win-win for both countries.
In November 2006, China and ROK decided to upgrade the unofficial study to a study to be jointly made by government, business and academia. Major work has been done thanks to the joint efforts by the two sides. Currently, the two sides are hard working on a few remaining issues unable to be agreed on.
