The leaders of both China and ASEAN Member (AMS) signed the Framework Agreement on China-ASEAN Comprehensive Economic Cooperation at the sixth China-ASEAN Summit in November 2002. The establishment of China-ASEAN free trade area enhances the close economic and trade relations between the two parties, and also contributes to the economic development of Asia and the world at large.
On November 22, 2015, the Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng and the Minister of ten ASEAN countries respectively represented the Chinese government and the government of ten ASEAN countries and officially signed the outcome document of the China-ASEAN FTA upgrading negotiations-Protocol on Revising the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement and Some Agreements under this Agreement by the People's Republic of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
