On July 4-6 2017, the 2nd round of the upgrading negotiation of China-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement was held in Beijing. Both sides conducted negotiations on topics such as technical trade barrier, customs procedure and trade facilitation, rule of origin, service trade, investment, competition policy, e-commerce, agricultural cooperation, environment, and government procurement.

China-New Zealand FTA is the first FTA reached between China and a developed country. The China-New Zealand FTA signed in 2008 enabled the bilateral trade and economic relations to enter a new development stage. Since the implement of this FTA eight years ago, the trade volume between the two sides has increased to 13.2% annually, vigorously promoting the development of the bilateral trade and economic relationship. The trade and economic cooperation fields between the two countries have been expanded gradually and the integration of interests has been deepened increasingly. The upgrading of China-New Zealand FTA will further promote the development of China-New Zealand trade and economic relations, improve the bilateral trade and economic cooperation level, better benefit the enterprises and the peoples of the two countries and further consolidate a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand.
