The fifth meeting of the China-Singapore FTA Commission was held in Singapore on January 20-22, 2015. The two sides talked on further supplementing and perfecting the China-Singapore FTA, and exchanged views on some specific issues concerning the trade in goods, trade in service, investment, technical trade barriers, and sanitary and phytosanitary measures.

The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Director of the Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce Sun Yuanjiang and Director of the Northeast Asia Division of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry Chan Khar Liang. Attending the meeting were representatives from China’s Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, General Administration of Customs, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and Standard Administration, and Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, Architects Bureau, Construction Bureau, Ministry of Legal and Political Affairs, Finance Administration, Tourist Administration, Innovation Administration and Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority.

The China-Singapore FTA was signed in 2008 and came into force officially on January 1, 2009, vigorously advancing the profound development of bilateral trade and economic relations. At present, China has become Singapore’s largest trading partner and largest investment destination, and Singapore is China’s second largest trading partner and second largest investment source in ASEAN countries.
