From March 3 to 7, the Second Meeting of China-Peru FRA Talks was held in Beijing. The two sides conducted thorough consultations on the topics of pattern of tax deduction in goods trade, national treatment and draft modalities for market access, request of trade in services and related draft modalities, rules of origin, customs procedures, technical trade barriers, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, dispute settlement, institutional problems, trade remedy,etc.. They also exchanged views on environmental problems.

Vice Minister of Commerce Yi Xiaozhun met with the members of Peruvian delegation.

China and Peru established diplomatic relations in 1971, and built a comprehensive partnership in 2005. President Hu Jintao and President Alan Garcia of Peru jointly declared the initiation of China-Peru FTA Talks.

Peru is now China’s important trade and investment partner in Latin America. The China-Peru bilateral trade surged by 49.59% year on year to US$6.014 billion, out of which China’s export hit US$1.678 billion, up by 66.43%, and China’s import hit US$4.336 billion, up by 49.03%. The cooperation on mutual investment, contract projects and labor cooperation, etc., between the two countries also enjoys relatively quick development.

The two sides agreed to hold the next round of talks in May in Beijing.
