On August 1, China's Ministry of Commerce and Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry held the fourth round of chief negotiators' meeting under the follow-up negotiations on FTA upgrade via video link. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on the text of relevant chapters, negative lists of trade in services and investment, and made positive progress. The two sides agreed to actively promote the negotiations and strive for more substantive progress at an early date.
The Upgrade Protocol of China-Singapore FTA was implemented in October 2019. According to the Upgrade Protocol, China and Singapore announced in December 2020 that they would start follow-up negotiations on FTA upgrading, negotiate service trade and investment liberalization with the negative list approach, so as to comprehensively enhance bilateral trade and investment liberalization and facilitation.
