The 2nd China-Panama FTA Joint Feasible Study Workgroup Meeting was held in Panama City, the capital city of Panama on March 7-9. With frequent negotiations, the two sides agreed on all the contents of feasible study report, marking the completion of joint feasible study.
It’s a major consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela in November 2017 to launch the China-Panama FTA construction. That will provide systematic guarantee for the development of bilateral trade and economic relations, and is significant for the sound development of the bilateral ties. Panama is China’s largest trading partner in Central America while China is Panama’s second largest trading partner in the world and the 2nd largest user of the Panama Canal. The joint report pointed out that China and Panama are strongly complementary to each other in economy and the signing of FTA on the basis of the mutually beneficial cooperation will help upgrade bilateral trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, explore the potential for bilateral trade and economic cooperation and bring the real interest for the business and people of both sides.
