On April 7 and 8, the second-round China-Chile FTA Talks on Investment Agreement was held in Beijing.
The Two Sides went further in Investment Management System information exchange, reached consensus on the basic text related to investment agreement, and each Side elaborated on its point of interest. The two sides hope that, on the basis of mutual benefit and practical and effective consultation, consensus can be reached upon the investment agreement, and cooperation in investment can be further promoted.
China-Chile FTA, with a focus on trade in goods and cooperation, was signed in November 2005, and entered into effect as of October 2006. Significant effects can be seen since its enforcement, bilateral trade rapidly going up. In the first and second year, bilateral trade reached US $ 13.2 billion and US $ 17.6 billion respectively, increased by 59% and 33% compared with that of the previous year. In April 2008, China and Chile signed China-Chile FTA Supplement Agreement on Trade in Services. When ratification procedure completed, the Agreement is likely to take effect in the first half of this year.
